Note: The night of August 15th on the lunar calendar (that would Sep. 30th on the Western Calendar) is the most significant event in the month, so several of the gomei relate to around that evening. Thus, “yumiharidzuki” is the moon on the 6th night; “matsuyoi” refers to 14th night, when the moon is almost full; “izayoi” refers to the night after the full moon; and “ariake” refers the the dawn after the full moon on the 16th.

In August, like many places, my local shrine has its festival. It looks something like this.
