I went all the way to Shibetsu this weekend for a kyudo competition, so I though I’d share a poster that caught my eye in the shrine office there. By the way, the Shibetsu shrine is very beautiful.

What it says sort of means “I’m glad I am Japanese” and on the bottom it says “Let’s raise the hi-no-maru with pride in our breasts.”

While at first I felt a little left out, actually it seems to me like quite a good thing to encourage people to fly the Japanese flag. Patriotic displays are still rare in Japan, over half a century after its occupation. It seems like a healthy and internationally responsible thing  to freely fly the flag of one’s own country. Anyway, I have proper article tomorrow that  I translated from Tanko Zasshi.
