This is found printed on the front cover of my monthly tuition envelope, although I won’t say precisely my own teacher’s charges. She is far too nice to us. I am curious what standards are in other countries, but speaking of money is always unrefined.

Monthly Tuition’s Clear Standards

  • Entrance fee: 3000 yen (Greeting upon first entering the classroom)
  • Inside Instruction (3 times a month): 6000 yen (includes the mizuya fee)
  • Inside Instruction (3 times a month): 7000 yen (when the person is required to travel?; includes the mizuya fee)
  • Outside Instruction (3 times a month): 10,000 yen (transportation is not included)
  • Association’s Instruction (Groups of 5 or over) is established in conference with the above
  • In the case of okuden or the Shichi-ji-shiki &c, there is a seperate fee of 3000 yen or more (mizuya fee included)
  • In the case of a special class, there is a separate fee
  • In the case of a kaiseki class, there is a payment of 5000 yen per person (other materials cost their actual charge)
  • In the case of taking the month off, monthly tuition is still due
  • Payment should be made at the beginning of the month
  • A payment of 500 yen should be payed for heating costs from October until the next year April (In the case of prepaying, it is 3000 yen)

一、内教授(月三回)六〇〇〇円(水屋料を含む)
一、内教授(月三回)七〇〇〇円(行以上の資格者水屋料を含む)
一、外教授(月三回)一〇〇〇〇円(交通費は別納)
一、団体教授(五名以上)協議の上にて定む
一、奥伝及七事式等の場合三〇〇〇円以上別納の事(水屋料を含む)
一、特別指導を受ける場合は別納の事
一、懐石指導の場合は一人五〇〇〇円以上納入(材料其他は実費)
一、各自の都合で休む月も月謝納入の事
一、納金は月初めに納める事
一、十月より翌年四月まで暖房料として月五〇〇円納入の事(前納の場合は三〇〇〇円)
